While this book is a great start as far as research, it shouldn’t be anyone’s only source. The only issue with this book is that, since technology has changed police procedures dramatically in the past few years, the techniques may be somewhat dated.

Loffland takes very mundane and technical processes and places them before the layman in an understandable, and useable, format. In this book he explains the differences between common phrases, such as “crime scene” and “scene of the crime”, “homicide”, “murder”, and “manslaughter”.
